The steps

  • Raise the car on four jackstands and remove all four wheels, observing all safety precautions. When working on the rear calipers, release the handbrake to unhook the parking brake cable from the caliper.
  • Remove the brake pads by extracting the pad pins.
  • Remove the brake hose.
-Floating calipers: unscrew the two caliper screws.
-Fixed calipers: unscrew the two caliper screws. Make sure the piston is fully retracted, or use the piston retractor (or clamp) if this is not the case.
  • Refit the new brake caliper and tighten the two bolts.
-Floating calipers: refit the brake pads, then refit the caliper using the two bolts.
-Fixed calipers: first refit the caliper using the two bolts, then reinstall the brake pads pads
  • Reconnect the brake hose
  • Reposition the handbrake cable on the caliper when changing rear calipers. If necessary, readjust the setting by referring to the technical review.
  • In the home stretch, you need to bleed the entire circuit, starting with the caliper furthest from the master cylinder and finishing with the caliper caliper.

Important tip from STÉPHANO

Before going for a test drive, pump the master cylinder several times by depressing the brake pedal until you feel the pedal become firm. This could prevent a collision.

Cleaning floating calipers:

- It's important to clean the floating caliper sliders every time you replace the brake pads, using very fine sandpaper.
- The caliper should float freely on its sliders.
