Motor controller removal and installation

The steps

1. First, remove the variator belt as described in Stéphano the mechanic's data sheet, available in the "belts" section: Click here to find out more.
2. Remove the motor variator by unscrewing the 13 mm screw that holds the complete speed controller in place, then insistently tapping the large 30 mm nut at the end of the motor speed controller with a sledgehammer and a suitable piece of wood. The motor drive is tapered and will dislodge itself with the impact.
3. Now you've removed your motor variator, you can put it on the workbench, and we'll clean and check it later.
4. To reassemble the drive pulley, proceed in the reverse order of removal.

Cleaning and checking removed components

• Drive pulley: Remove the bell, remove the 3 weight carriers and check the wear clearance at the ends of the blocks. If they are too worn, or if the weight is damaged, replace them. Blow out the entire flange half.
• Check axial wear clearance of bearings upper and lower bearings. Replace if necessary.
• Check bearings and flange interiors.
