How to choose the right timing belt?

How to choose the right timing belt and, above all, when to change it?

A timing belt is made of a highly resistant rubber that requires special maintenance, but limits noise pollution. The role of the timing belt is to synchronize the movements of the pistons and valves, and to drive the water pump.

The timing belt on your small car must be constantly under tension, and therefore contributes to the combustion and cooling cycles. The belt is made up of notches that fit into the pulley(s) and the water pump so that they rotate together.

Changeover times vary widely, and depend above all on the car manufacturer's recommendations. Over and above the manufacturer's specifications, your timing belt should be replaced if you notice any of the following:

Worn teeth
Cracked belt surface
Oiling of the belt (due to a leaking oil filter)
Frayed belt

A broken belt inevitably leads to engine failure... so it's very important to have a belt in good condition!

A complete timing kit consists of the following components:

Timing belt
Tensioner
Idler pulley
Water pump

All these components are on sale on our website and have been chosen by our technicians for their quality and robustness.
