The shock absorber brakes the spring's oscillations and transforms this energy into heat. The suspension, on the other hand, must keep the wheels in permanent contact with the ground, to improve roadholding, and thus ensure better braking and driving comfort.

Here are a few signs that you may need to replace your shock absorbers:

• abnormal vibration of the steering wheel
• when braking, the car plunges forward a little too much
