The valve cap (often called a valve stem cap) is a small cylindrical metal cap made of very hard steel that fits directly onto the upper end of the valve stem. On the Kubota twin-cylinder diesel engine used in Aixam and Minauto ranges, this part acts as a buffer zone: it is the surface on which the rocker arm strikes thousands of times per minute to push the valve down and open the combustion chamber.
